He who bites last…

Another Saturday morning Short Film… This time it’s the delightful (and beautifully shot) Teeth. Directed by John Kennedy and Ruairí O’Brien (who was also Director of Photography), Teeth is a short “last laugh” tale of two old friends, their teeth and a series of events that leaves them lost for words. The idea for Teeth was based on a story director Ruairí heard from his father, actor Niall O’Brien who stars in the short film with Niall Tobin.

Teeth was produced by Noreen Donahue under the Irish Film Board’s now defunct Short Shorts scheme.

It’s peaceful here…

Another Saturday, another short film. This time it’s Silent City, a (short) epic war movie directed by Ruairí Robinson.

Robinson also directed the Oscar nominated Fifty PerCent Grey. Silent City features Don Wycherley and Cillian Murphy and is produced by Nick Ryan (who has been hailed in previous dispatches on this blog). Well worth 7 odd minutes of your time.

Silent City features some stunning FX & visuals and there is an interesting “making of” vid here which gives a view on how some of the imagery was created/realised. Worth a look for those interested in such technical matters.

Post-Modern is an anagram of Stoned Romp…

Another Saturday morning, another Irish Short Film… This time it’s the narrative deconstructing PoV. It’s designed to wreck your head but it has an interesting concept behind it. A short film that uses a credit roller to tell its story. It should annoy me but somehow it doesn’t.

It’s not the kind of short that wins awards but it’s interesting all the same. Think Memento. Kind of. Directed by Heroes For Zeroes, aka John Kennedy and Ruairí O’Brien (who was also Director of Photography).

PoV was produced by John McDonnell.

Nicely done with a lovely weighted Steadicam shot at the end. Hats off.

ps. Post-Modern is also an anagram of Modest Porn. So there.

A Saturday morning short film…

August 9, 2008 at 10:40 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

Directed by James Mather & Stephen St. Leger, Prey Alone is a high-octane Irish short film that pushes the limits of computer-generated animation to the cutting edge.

Agent Cain is on the hunt for an elusive unidentified killer. His only clues: an uncooperative witness and the words P.R.E.Y. A.L.O.N.E..

Take a look, it really is a stunning, blockbuster Irish short film.

One boy met one girl and ended up with a price on his head. Called A Facebook Fatwa, it tells the story of what happens when innocent pictures on a Facebook page end up in the wrong person’s hands.

Made under the Irish Film Board’s VirtualCinema scheme the short is written & produced by Eamonn Carey and directed by Colin Corrigan.

A Monday morning movie link…

If you have a spare ten minutes you could do a lot worse than have a look at A Lonely Sky. It’s a fine Irish short film created by Nick Ryan. It’s beautifully made, the cinematography by James Mather is stunning, and the tone and feel are spot on. I’m sure there must be 6-picture-deals being penned on the back of it?
