Modjren ways…
I love the way older people say the made-up word modjren in place of the actual word modern. As a way of saying something is contemporary or up-to-date it really has such character; it almost becomes a different word in its right with its own connotations. Quite post-modjren in fact.

Back in the late 70’s/early 80’s, during the height of the troubles, my Granny used to mispronounce the word ‘bomb’ as ‘bum’. I have no idea why.
She often thought I was heartless at my giggly reactions to her sad observations such as, ‘Wasn’t it terrible about that bumming up North?’

We must be thankful Meadow that such bumming up North has ceased!

My mother thought the Ardoyne area was part of your body… “A man was shot in the ardoyne area this morning”

I hope you didn’t correct her HM?!? Sometimes those little quirks in life add so much character.

We also told her single records could only be played once, hence the name. But it was when we were fooling ourselves that we never fooled her!
