I swore never again…

One Autumn evening, when I was about 12 or 13, my Uncle asked me to give him a hand clearing out an old shed at the back of his garden. Being young and impressionable enthusiastic, I was only too delighted to help.

There were lots of old building materials and the like which I was to illegally dump discard in an old, abandoned field behind his garden.

So I started into it. After a while I walked with a cavity block towards a dirty old bush of briars and brambles. I hurled the cavity block into the centre if it. And in so doing unleashed a fury the like of which hell hath never seen. A frenzy of angry bees. Very upset at such a concrete disturbance, they made a beeline for my head. It was like that scene from My Girl. Although thankfully without Macauley Culkin and the saccharine music. I ran like fuck. And almost got away. Almost.

One of the little fuckers wouldn’t give up. He got me. Right in the corner of the eye. The bit where the skin ends and the eyeball starts. And boy did it hurt like hell. It started to swell immediatley. Like a sliotar on my face. It affected my senses and I think I might have a subconscious fear of bees since.

The thing is I deserved it. If some prick threw a cavity block threw my window I’d be rightly upset. And you can be sure I never did it again.

There’s an old saying that says… in Tennessee, I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee, sting me once, shame on — shame on you. Sting me — you can’t get stung again.

Or can you?

    Oh. My. God.

    Oh. My. GOD.

    SERIOUSLY?

I’m shaking just reading that. You poor, poor thing! What you did was silly sure but getting stung in the eye as a result?! Crikey

Yes Annee it did indeed happen. A most unpleasant experience. But I lived to tell the tale. One of those life lesson things I guess! But thanks for the sympathy all the same ;-) .

Oh god god that photos is awful.

I got stung in the eye once too. I was playing net ball in secondary school when one of the girls on the team put her hands across my eyes to block my shot. She ended up squeezing a very angry bee into my eyeball. Not pretty. Not pretty at all.

@ Lottie, sorry about the photos, I know they’re not too pleasant but I felt I needed something striking for this one!

Yeah it’s a nasty one getting stung in the eye, even less pleasant than the photos! Glad you also lived to share your not pretty experience here! Ta.

Jesus H. Christ, another person stung in the eye? How often does that happen?!

Sorry for the dramatics, I just happen to have a rather annoying wasp/bee phobia. I lose all sense of reason as soon as one comes near me. One time I was queuing for the bus and a bee made a erm… bee-line straight for me but nobody else in the queue saw the bee and I just looked like a crazy lady flapping my arms about. Scar. Leh.

Dramatics are always welcome here Annee!

    And Scar. Leh. Indeed!

Be careful and don’t get stung in the eye by a bee. Only people that aren’t careful get stung by bees in their eye.

Thanks Dasie, I will try not to get stung again, I promise. Not pleasant.
